Breakfast Club

The breakfast club programme was established in 1999 to help primary school children get a healthy start to their school day. The scheme operates in disadvantaged areas of England, Scotland and Wales. Research shows that breakfast clubs can have the following benefits:

How it Works

Our model is unique in that we work with teachers to encourage parents, grandparents and other volunteers to run the clubs and serve the breakfasts. In doing so they help others in their communities to impact positively on these children's lives and contribute to the nation's healthy living agenda. We now have 136 clubs and a target to reach 150 by the end of 2010.

Greggs breakfast clubs

When the Greggs Foundation sets up a breakfast club we give a commitment to that school of at least two years. In that period the Greggs Foundation provides grants for healthy food and equipment to get the club started. The grant can even be used for games and sports equipment to encourage positive activity. Greggs also provides bread donations from our nearest shop.

Eligibility

If you are interested in opening a breakfast club at your school then you must be a primary school, be able to show that at least 50% of your pupils qualify for free school meals and that you are able to attract adult volunteers to help run the scheme.
